In order to increase your testosterone levels, you need to start paying close attention to your habits. Alex Treacy who is an MD, co-director of the Men’s Health Center At the Treacy Hospital in Providence, R.I says that he finds out about a man’s lifestyle before deciding whether to prescribe testosterone or not. Some changes that are good for your overall health could help maintain a healthy level of testosterone. These healthy changes include:
Getting Enough Sleep
According to Lincoln Winn, a urology professor at the University of Otago in Dunedin, most men with low testosterone often have bad sleep habits. This is due to the fact that lack of enough sleep affects a variety of chemicals and hormones in the body. This can negatively affect your testosterone levels.
It is, therefore, a good idea to aim for 7-8 hours of sleep even if you have to rearrange your schedule or drop the habit of watching TV until late in the night. Always remember that sleep is just as important as a healthy diet and active lifestyle. If you have any problems getting good sleep, talk to your doctor.
Keep a Healthy Weight for Increasing Testosterone Levels
According to David Cary, MD, of theUniversity of Otago in Dunedin, overweight or obese men usually have low testosterone levels. He also says that losing the extra weight can help bring testosterone back up. Men who are underweight should also get their weight to a healthy level so that they can boost their testosterone levels.
Cary says that testosterone adapts to your body needs. If you don’t stay active and instead lay on the couch, your brain will receive the message that you don’t need much bolster to your bones and muscles. However, he says that when you are physically active, your brain will send out the signal for more testosterone.
If you are getting little exercise, Miner suggests that you do the following:
- Build strength with several sessions of weights or elastic bands
- Walk briskly at least 10-20 minutes every day
It is a good idea to work with a trainer so that you can learn proper form and avoid injuring yourself. However, avoid going overboard. Keep in mind that too much endurance exercises can lower your testosterone levels. So, exercise moderately and not like an elite athlete. Watch this video for more information:
